Aspen Lung Conference

Thomas L. Petty Aspen Lung Conference

The Golden Anniversary Meeting (2008 Annual Meeting) of the Aspen Lung Conference was held June 4 - 7, 2008 at the Given Institute, Aspen, Colorado.  Richard J. Martin, M.D. was the Chair and Monica Kraft, M.D. and E. Rand Sutherland, M.D. were Co-Chairs.  The theme of the Golden Anniversary Meeting of the Thomas L. Petty Aspen Lung Conference was "Asthma: Insights and Expections".  With an emphasis on integration between basic, translational and clinical sciences, the meeting addressed important issues in the development and progression of asthma.

Anchored by twelve "State-of-the-Art" presentations, thematic sessions addressed the importance of airway inflammation in asthma, the role of innate immunity in asthma development, the contributions of genes and environment to risk and prognosis, the involvement of the epithelium and how abnormalities in these various domains interact to alter airway physiology and influence response to therapy.  Homer A. Boushey, M.D., University of California, San Francisco, California is the Conference Summarizer.
